Speaker Albert's visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran, and Spain April 15-25, 1976

April 15th through the 25th, in 1976, The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Carl Albert, visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran, and Spain.
The purpose of the visit by the US Speaker of the House, followed a 1971 visit of the late, King Faisal of Saudi of Arabia’s extension to the Speaker during a visit to the United States. The Speaker wanted to broaden the relationship between the US and the oil-producing countries of the Middle East. The visit included Kuwaitland Iran as well as the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.


Then intention of the trip is to explore the perception of these countries with the United States, present and future: their relationship toward each other and positions on the main issues of the Middle East and the global structure.


Those selected to accompany Albert: State Escort Officer FSO-3 Richard W. Aherne; Office of Arabian Peninsula Affairs Major Peter Jackson; representatives of the United States Air Force and Representatives from the Department of Defense.
This exhibit interconnects photographed moments with rarely seen manuscript collections creates a unique awareness of interactions with the various Middle Eastern leadership representatives, including communicative assemblies, press conferences, and candid snapshots of casual relations between Albert and those visited. Exclusive to the Albert collection, are original Central Intelligence Agency (C.I.A.) dossiers, Secret Service briefings, and handwritten memorandums by Albert and other House Representatives
